That reminds me of the kind of "confusion" Quentin Tarantino talks about that it is pleasant sometimes to make the audience deliberately confused, but they must feel they are "in good hands." It is as if we sit on the audience mind to numb their brain's cognitive center in order to give them more pleasure. It is as if they can imagine that it is not their mind that is involved in the film, but something rather beyond their comprehension.
